Anza-Borrego Desert State Park lies in the Southeastern part of California, 90 miles Northeast of San Diego and 31 miles East of Julian. The desert is home to fossils and rocks dating from 540 million years ago, it also consists of dry lakebeds, sandstone canyons, granite mountains, palm groves and over 600 kinds of desert plants. The rare bighorn sheep can sometimes be spotted here along with some migratory birds. After the spring rains, thousands of wild flowers burst into bloom, transforming the desert into a colorful sheet of red, lavender, pink, blue. Anza-Borrego Desert State Park is California's largest state park encompassing more than 600,000 acres. Hiking, backpacking, exploring and camping are the main activities here.

The temperature of Anza-Borrego Desert State Park rises up to 115°F in the summers. The winters are more comfortable with a temperature of approximately 70°F, but the nighttime temperature can drop to freezing. It is always recommended to check the temperature before planning a trip to Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. Most visitors approach from the east via Highways S22, S2, or 78. It is about a two-hour drive from San Diego, Riverside, and Palm Springs.
