Quick History:
The idea to make this park was first put together by Dr Goh Keng Swee in 1968 who was the minister of defense. He envisioned this place to be a location where people could come, relax and enjoy the refreshing natural ambience. It was first opened in January 1971 with an initial capital of 3.5 million Singapore dollars. Recently the park completed a huge makeover and upgraded many sections of the park. It includes African wetlands exhibit, a new entrance plaza, bird hospital, gift shop and many restaurants. The birds live in an environment that is closest to their natural habitat. It is known as 'Taman Burung Jurong' in Malay.

Location And Getting Around
The park is built on the western slope of Jurong Hill, located about 24 km (15 miles) from downtown Singapore. An air-conditioned modern Panorail (panoramic monorail) system covers almost the entire BirdPark and is the best way to start a tour.
