The area north of Cape Town is very famous for its vineyards and South Africa wine tasting. The town closest to Capetown is Stellenbosch and further along you will find Franschhoek, Wellington, and Paarl towns. Stellenbosch consists of about 300 wineries and just 1 hour drive from Cape Town. The region is known for its culture and history with some excellent examples of typical Dutch architecture dating back to the 17th century. Here farmers enjoy perfect conditions and produce ogreat South Africa wine, some of which are the best in the world. The soil is so rich, they use about a tenth the amount of fertilizer that European farmers do. Stellenbosch is also the second oldest town of South Africa, a great many attractive buildings, including an excellent Museum. The Cape Wine Academy in Stellenbosch offers visitors a wonderful opportunity of learning about local and international wines. Paarl is home to several small museums and the wine cellars. Franschhoek originally hosted refugee Huguenots from France, who brought their wine-growing skills to South Africa also has Huguenot Museum. Many of the vineyards also make cheese, or grow olives and press oil, so there's a lot more than South Africa wine.
Many of these vineyards in Winelands have restaurants and offer wine tasting and many of them further offer night stay lodges. It is usually recommended to rent a car from Capetown and stay here for a day. The production of wine has shaped the development of this area for over 300 years. Paarl is Only 56 km from Cape Town, Paarl offers historical charm, culture, architectural heritage, wine and fruit farms, breathtaking scenery and many cycling and nature trails. Franschhoek is well known for its excellent restaurants, top accommodation establishments, splendid mountains and openhearted hospitality. Robertson is the largest South Africa wine-producing area under irrigation, and known for superior wine.
